Poolman was established in 1986 by Jeff and Bernice Manhardt when the Carlson’s decided to sell their business due to poor health issues.
In 1998, Wes went to work for Poolman as a Sales/General Manager after working for 13+ years in the industry as a manufacturer’s rep as well as several years of hot tub special event sales i.e., state/county fairs and home/garden shows. In 1999, Barb brought her 15+ years of business experience to Poolman when she became employed as an Operations Manager. Soon after, the Manhardt’s decided to sell the business to them.
With Wes’ extensive sales background and Barb’s strong history in business, they felt it just made sense for them to purchase the business.
Upon purchasing the company, Wes and Barb envisioned creating a “state of the art” showroom offering products of the highest quality with the most affordable pricing to their customers. In order to offer the customers the best possible quality, within 3 months of ownership, they added the Hot Spring line of hot tubs. During the first year of carrying this line, they only had one service call on the product. Within the same year, they began talks of building a new showroom which was completed and moved into on November 1, 2002. They increased the showroom size from 3,000 sq ft to 5,300 sq ft with 5,300 sq ft of warehouse below.
Since becoming owners of Poolman of Wisconsin, Wes and Barb have grown the business into a nationally recognized business with products ranging from 15 foot above-ground pools to a world-recognized vanishing edge in-ground pool. To this date, Poolman has grown significantly in size and revenue, and the companies operations now include 9 full time year-round employees and additional employees during the busy summer season. Future expansion ideas are currently in the planning stages.
